Naturopathy

In India, Naturopathy plays an important role. It prevails in India from millions of years. We are fortunate enough to still have this ancient form of treatment. We must be glad and thankful to the protectors of this ancient treasure. Naturopathy is not treated in big concrete buildings like of allopathic corporate hospitals. We usually find Naturopathic centers in our rural areas. They are still conducted in the form of Ashrams away from pollution in a natural and pleasant atmosphere.

Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana has defined the term Naturopathy in such a simple and realistic way that even an illiterate understands the essence of it. Naturopathy is a way of treatment which involves no medicines. Yes… you heard it right. It involves no medicines. You may wonder how it can be treated without medicines. Naturopathy deals with the healing powers present with in our body. It believes that a human falls sick only if he goes against the dharma of our body. To understand the essence of this, you need to understand the dharma of our body. A human body contains 5 elements of nature. These five elements are Air, Water, Earth, Space and Fire. Any deficiency of these 5 elements of nature in our body leads to ill health. Naturopathic Physicians use these five elements of Nature to cure all the diseases. They supply the lacking element in to the body through different processes according to the disease and the physical and mental state of the patient.

The following are the few techniques that are used to treat the patient in the Ashrams of Naturopathy:


Air Treatment:


Air plays a vital role in our body. I guess every one of you understand the essence of air in our body. A human cannot survive if he cannot inhale and exhale air for a few minutes. Air treatment involves performing regular Pranayams (an art of controlling breath in yoga). As all of you know that a restless mind is the source of all diseases. Today, everybody is in tension. Every man, woman including children in today’s world are involved in some kind of tension. People suffering from stress and other diseases are treated with Pranayams.


Water Treatment:


Many people do not understand the essence of drinking Water. Lack of water in our body may lead to many chronic diseases. Deficiency of water in our body results in the formation of Low Blood Pressure, Skin Allergy, Migraine, Stones in the Kidney, Urinary diseases, Body pains etc. If you visit an Ashram for any of these diseases you will be treated with water in different ways. Different types of water treatment are given to different people depending on their problem. Cold Water Treatment, Hot Water Treatment, Tub Water Treatment, Spray Water Treatment etc. are given depending on the case apart from giving ample amount of water to drink.


Earth Treatment:


Many people suffer from various diseases by eating junk and unhealthy food. As discussed in our previous post the enemies of health are Salt, Sugar, Oil, Ghee, Sour and spice. These elements are considered to be the main sources of ill health. Excessive use of salt leads to high blood pressure, sugar leads to diabetes, oil, ghee, sour and spices leads to high cholesterol. If anybody visits a Naturopathic Ashram he will be served all natural food that are grown from the earth. Totally unrefined and raw food is served. Earthly food includes only vegetables, seeds and plants. Apart from such food, patients will be given mud bath to their body.


Space Treatment:



The space or vacuum in our body has a major role to play. You need vacuum for food, water and blood cells to travel. If there is no vacuum in your stomach you can’t eat or drink, if there is no vacuum in the blood vessels, the blood cells doesn’t travel. You should always keep more space in your body to be healthy. Eating all the time may lead to form toxins within your body. Similarly drinking cool drinks too forms toxins. If you eat more than enough or any junk food, you may suffer from many diseases apart from indigestion problems. So, when a patient visits a Naturopathic Ashram, he will be put on fasting continuously for a couple of days to create the vacuum in his body and then flushed his entire stomach with lots and lots of water. Fasting involves, fasting on water, fasting on juices and fasting on fruits etc., depending on the mental and physical state of the patient.


Fire Treatment:


The fifth element fire in our body means the strength. A human body lacks strength if improper and innutritious diet is taken. We need strength to work and resist the body from various toxins in our body. Sun bath is the best example of fire treatment. The sun rays are allowed through mirrors of various colors on the affected parts of the body of the patients depending on the nature of disease they are suffering from.


I tried to briefly explain, how Naturopathy treatment works. These treatments are basically given to the patients suffering from different diseases. To understand it better, you need to visit any Naturopathy Ashram.


Growing importance of Naturopathy:


An Allopathic doctor offers you medicines, a Homeopathic doctor offers you medicines, an Unani doctor offers you medicines and finally an Ayurvedic doctor too offers you medicines but a Naturopath never offers you medicines for treating the disease. Instead he asks you to change your life style and live naturally. This aspect of Naturopath has made it unpopular for many years. A human being never wants to change the way he is living, no matter what it costs. He wants to eat whatever he likes, drink whatever he likes and yet wants to get relieved from the illness he suffers from. 99% of the people visit the Allopathic doctor for their illness because an Allopathic medicine relieves them from illness immediately without asking them to change their life styles. When it comes to Homeopathy, Unani and Ayurved, the doctors ask you to follow some diet according to the disease or infection. Therefore they are least liked medicines when compared to Allopathic. Naturopathy does not involve any medicines, injections or surgeries. A Naturopath treats you only by finding the deficiencies in your diet and by balancing your diet according to the requirement. For this you need to change your life style. You are asked to avoid salt, sugar, sour, oil, ghee and spices immediately and were made to eat boiled vegetables, fruits and juices. You may wonder, who would like to undergo for such a treatment where every tasty food is avoided to eat. Yes! Most of you wouldn’t like to follow naturopathy, if you were asked to eat only boiled food without all the tastes of food stated above. But some day one has to visit the Naturopathic Ashram if he continues eating those enemies of health. You may find a cure for the diseases in Allopathic medicine but there is no permanent prevention in it. There are certain diseases which cannot be cured even by all the other forms of medicines if the dharma of the body is not performed. Many people approach Allopathic medicines for their illness. Instead of getting cured, they get side effects. Then they approach for Homeopathic medicines. As you know homeopathic medicines takes time to cure. Unable to wait for long time, they move on to Unani and then to Ayurvedic. After giving it up, they come to know about Naturopathic treatment. After trying every kind of treatment they visit the Ashram of Naturopathy as a matter of last resort. Here they were put on severe fasting for a few days and were served with the natural food without those enemies of health as mentioned above. They not only get cured but were also taught the methods of preventing diseases in future by following simple and the Natural Ways of Living.


Today the attitude of people towards Naturopathy is changing, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju and many others like him. He has taken the mission of Natural Ways of Living in such a mass way that millions of people have started living naturally. He has given a new approach to Naturopathy. He made it simple and acceptable. He made people realize the dharmas of their body and shown them the way to protect those dharmas of body. He utilized every possible media of information like, TV, News Papers, Internet, CD’s etc., and spread the treasure of Natural Ways of Living across the globe. Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju realized that no matter any number of Allopathic corporate hospitals were established in the past 50 years in India, the percentage of people admitting in those hospitals has not been reduced. The reason is that all these forms of medicines cures the specific disease but does not prevent or eradicate the root cause of the disease. On the other hand Naturopathy involves two ways of treating the patients. One way of treatment is as it has been described above by balancing the five elements of nature in the Ashrams and other way is by teaching natural ways of living to the patients. Naturopathy not only cures the diseases but also prevents you from diseases affecting in future. In other words it is a two fold sword. Dr. Mantena thought of educating the people about the Natural Ways of Living on a large scale throughout the state of Andhra Pradesh. His efforts have paid off. He has succeeded to a great extent in making people realize the benefits of living naturally. His endeavor to the mankind is unforgettable. With his Natural Ways of Living or Prakruti Jeevana Vidhanalu, Dr. Mantena preached and taught the root causes of the diseases and the ways to prevent or eradicate from their roots.

INTRODUCTION TO MANTENA SATYA NARAYANA RAJU



Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju is a famous Naturo Therapist. He hails from the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. He is a simple man under four decades of age, appearing in white Khadi Kurta and Pyzama with a candid smile and peaceful voice; preaching his theory of Natural Ways of Living. Once he starts, he preaches unmoved for about 2 to 3 hours continuously to the hundreds of people gathered to listen him.


It is learnt that he drives the car himself and travels miles around various parts of the state to preach on the Natural Ways of Living to the people. The moment he finishes his preaching, people gather around him and each of them raise their doubts. He explains each and every person with utmost patience.


He had conducted several camps at various districts of Andhra Pradesh for various corporate bodies, schools, hospitals and other small and medium enterprises to preach his theory of Natural Ways of Living.


Dr. Raju has begun his endeavor of preaching Natural Ways of Living, since 1994 ie. from the past 12 years across 20 districts of Andhra Pradesh and inspired millions of people towards a healthy and natural way of living. Being the beneficiary, I have no hesitation in claiming that millions of people have gained good health because of Dr. Mantena Satya Naraya Raju’s preaching on Natural Ways of Living. Several lives have been enlightened and many people have overcome the addiction of drugs and alcohol.


Dr. Raju has sowed the seeds of Natural Ways of living in the hearts of millions of people in a very simple and sensitive way. Those seeds are now growing into many branches and forming a huge Tree and giving health benefits to some millions of people. People are temporarily getting rid of the problems of ill health by taking English Medicines. No one is trying to eradicate the root cause of the ill health. Dr. Raju believed that our ancestors have taught us the Natural Ways of Living without taking medicines. He took up the initiative to spread the knowledge of our ancestral treasure of Natural Ways of Living to millions of people.


If you clearly listen his preaching, you would understand that every word spoken by him has gone through immense research on the subject. One more interesting point is that you don’t find him preach a written matter. They were experienced and expressed. Dr. Raju has followed the Natural Ways of living on self, experienced the benefits and then he preached others to enjoy the benefits of it. He continuously says that doctors tell you only what they have learnt by studying. They never say beyond that because they haven’t experienced it. Our ancestors have experienced the benefits of living in natural way free of diseases for hundreds of years. They have experienced and instructed us to follow and reap the benefits of living healthy. He took it as a mission to take our ancestral secrets of living naturally. To be honest, no one in this world has taken the mission of Nature cure treatment in such big way in a single state apart from Dr. Raju. He is like a single man army on a mission.


In this commercialized world, when thousands and thousands of rupees are being charged by the doctors for treatment, Dr. Raju never expects a rupee from anybody. His income comes from the sale of books, CDs and other essentials. Dr. Raju firmly believes that being born on the great Indian soil which has great natural resources, it is the responsibility of every citizen to preserve the great Mother Nature and follow the dharma of nature.


Dr. Raju’s first encounter with the Natural Ways of Living is very interesting one. Many of you would definitely like to know how and when Dr. Raju had happened to learn and follow the Natural Ways of Living. Well… I once heard him saying on TV, that his parents were childless for about 6 years. After following all other kinds of medicines, they approached a Prakrutika Vaidya Ashramam, a place where people are treated with Natural Ways of Living. Prakrutika Vaidya Vidhanalu or Nature cure treatment or Natural Ways of Living has no medicines to apply. The food you take is the only medicine in Nature Cure treatment. The patients in these ashrams are cured only by making and serving a natural diet. After following nature cure treatment in the Ashram, they finally gave birth to a boy child. He was none other than Dr. Raju himself. There is no doubt that he was taught the natural ways of living to some extent from childhood days. Once during holidays to his school, Dr. Raju was sent to the Ashram for a few days. He was kept on fasting for the first two days in the Ashram. Unable to tolerate the hunger, he kept on crying for food. He was finally served food after 2 days. 2 phulkas with little honey and boiled vegetables. The moment he started eating, he realized that curry has no salt, oil and any kind of spices. They were simply boiled and served. Unhappy with the curry he threw the curry from a window and ate the phulkas with honey. The same scene continued for a couple of days. They used to serve him the boiled vegetables, honey and phulkas and he used to throw the curry out of window and eat the phulkas with honey. In the mean time he had an interesting observation about the curry he had thrown out of window. A crow visited near the curry he had thrown but flew without eating it. Again after a few hours a dog visited it and sensed the curry and left without eating it. Dr. Raju is to wonder! Even the crows and dogs aren’t eating that food, how can he suppose to eat them? After suffering from indigestion, he realized the importance of curry and started eating it regularly. Gradually he learnt the natural way of living in the ashram and returned home after a few days. He followed the same life style even during college days. He used to cook himself and eat them. During this period he experimented different types of food on his body and realized the harms and benefits of different foods. In the process he realized that to make every one follow his way of Natural Living, one has to offer the natural and healthy food without the enemies of health viz., sweet, salt, oil, ghee, tamarind, spice and yet tasty by adding their supplementary elements to the food. He therefore, experimented and discovered a new technique of cooking tasty food without sugar, salt, oil, ghee, tamarind and spice with supplements of those elements.


Finally, I would like to say that Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju is an embodiment of all virtues. He is a God sent gift to the entire mankind who is on a mission to provide good health by following simple ways of living naturally. Hats off Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju!

Natural Ways of Living


This blog of mine is a tribute to Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju for his endeavour to keep his fellow mates and the society healthy and happy through his “Prakrutika Jeevana Vidhanalu” (“Natural ways of life). Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju is famous Naturo Therapist from the Distt. of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. I am sure you would like to know more about Dr. Raju. Don’t you worry; I will provide a detailed description of Dr. Raju in my coming post. As of now I would like to share my experiences on the effects of Dr. Raju’s preaching on me.

I first saw Dr. Raju giving a TV program called “Mee Aarogyam Mee Chetilo” (Your Health in your Hands) on MAA TV a local Telugu Channel of Andhra Pradesh. To be honest my first impression on Dr. Raju was not very good. I found him boring. That is because I hardly heard him for 10 minutes. More over, I never stick to a single program on TV, thanks to the remote controller in my hands.

Again after a couple of months I saw him in the same program on MAA TV. I listened to him for just 5 minutes. His preaching struck my heart. He made me think. This time he hit the nail on the head. He succeeded in influencing my mind and heart with his preaching. The reason! He was preaching on Obesity and its cure and it was one of my major concerns over the years. I put up 7 to 8 Kgs of weight over the past 2 years. I was around 90 Kgs by that time. I watched the program unmoved on my seat like never before. Later, when the program ended I realized he is not an ordinary man. He is a slim man under four decades of age attired in white khadi kurta preaching his theory of natural ways to live a life, unmoved at one place with a candid smile on his face and a peaceful voice. He has the charm and charisma to influence large section of the crowd. Now a day I never miss an opportunity to listen Dr. Raju. I considered Dr. Raju as an ideal and started to follow his preaching to some extent if not completely.

The beginning was not easy for me. Since I belong to a middle class large family, it was difficult for me to follow his preaching. Because of my decision to make changes in the type of food I eat, the problems for my mother and wife have increased. If they cook according to me, other members get unhappy and vice versa. They found themselves in trouble quite often because of me. Initially, I thought of giving it up. But the problem is I never give up things easily. My dedication to change has increased more with the obstacles on my way. I continued to follow some of the guidelines of Dr. Raju to some extent if not fully.

Today, I have realized the magic of Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju’s secret of Prakrutika Jeevan Vidhanalu. I am feeling and enjoying it now. I not only shed my weight to a great extent but also find myself healthier and happier. A few months back, I used to get tired very often. But today, I feel more energetic and enthusiastic. A few of these things I strictly followed for the past 4 or 5 months and it paid off. Here are the few things I did:

1. Stopped eating stuff cooked outside. Earlier I used to eat lot of junk food at hotels, restaurants, bakeries and roadside stalls. I haven’t touched them after started following Dr. Raju’s way of living.

2. Stopped eating of rice in dinner. I have been regularly taking Phulka’s in dinner without missing. This has helped me getting me deep sleep at nights. Since I work 12 hours a day, (10Am to 10 PM) I always felt short of deep sleep. Since, Phulka’s take no much time to get digested; I dont feel tired and deprived of deep sleep these days.

3. Stopped eating Idlies, dosas, poories, vadas and other fried and cooked items in breakfast. Instead of them I have started eating Dr. Raju’s recommended breakfast with sprouted seeds. I used to soak a couple of grasps of groundnuts, Bengal grams, moong beans, black eyed beans in water in different bowls separately for a period of 5 to 6 hours and then take them out and knot them in neatly washed clothes and sprinkle water regularly on them to keep them fresh. By morning the sprouts begins to rise from the seeds. I take these sprouted seeds as my breakfast every day. Sprouted seeds are considered to be very nutritious and healthy.

4. Replaced white Rice with Brown Rice at lunch. Since brown rice (mudi biyyam in telugu) has more nutrients I started eating brown rice at lunch. Since there is a long gap between my lunch and dinner time, I used to get hungry by evening 5 PM before when I was eating white rice. But after eating brown rice I realized that it’s taking long time to digest and not making me feel hungry by evening. More over, I find it chewy and tastier than white rice.

5. Gradually stopped drinking tea and coffee. Before, I used to take 3 to 4 cups of tea a day. Stopping a habit immediately is not easy for anybody. It took me four months to do so. I gradually reduced the intake of tea and totally stopped it now since one month.

6. Reduced Oil, Salt and Spice. Dr. Mantena Satya Narayana Raju considers them as the mentors for creating health problems. All the health issues are associated with these three factors in food. We Indians are so addicted to these three elements of food that it is not easy for anybody to take apart from them. I haven’t got control over them yet, though I reduced the intake of oily, salty and spicy food to a great extent. It may take a few months more to stop them completely to be honest.

7. Drink 5 to 6 Litres of water every day. I drink a litre of water as soon as I wake up in the morning and walk for ten minutes. This creates pressure on the small intestine and helps in cleaning the stomach. The water flushes the intestines and makes it clean. Again after some time I drink another litre of water. This flushes the remains in the stomach if any. I do not take any water during and after the food for about two hours. This is because, taking water during and after food dissolves the digestive gases in our stomach. If the digestive gases dissolve no proper digestion takes place. After two hours of every food break I drink 3 to 5 litres of water.

8. Stopped drinking concentrated drinks like cola, pepsi etc., available in the market. Early I used to drink lots and lots of cool drinks during summer. This summer, I hadn’t touched them. Instead I preferred to drink fruit juices as and when possible.

9. Reduced consuming non-vegetarian food. I used to eat non-vegetarian food once or twice a week. I can't say I had completely stopped eating non-vegetarian food but I haven't eaten it for long at home. I occasionally ate non-veg at marriages and other functions of my friends and relatives where I found it hard to avoid. After realizing the ill effects of the non-veg food, I don't feel as enthusiastic as before for non-veg food. I feel, I may overcome this hurdle very soon and stop consuming non-veg food completely in the near future.

Sprouted seeds and beans, brown rice, phulka’s have become a part of my life style these days. Another good thing happened to me was that my wife too has started to give me a company. She too has included this menu in her diet. I noticed other members of my family are now gradually getting accustomed to low spice, salt and oil food. This welcome change in my family members has encouraged me to start this blog. I hope 1 out of 100 might find this blog useful and change if not try to change his/her life style to stay fit and healthy. In my post, I would be revealing various secrets of Dr. Mantena Satyanarayana Raju’s theory of “Natural way of living”. Before that I feel it essential to tell you a few things about Dr. Raju.
